Now confirmed: Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is dead

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari died in a London Hospital where he was receiving medical care, the Nigerian Mission in UK has confirmed.
According to the information released by the Nigerian Embassy, Buhari left the West African country for a vacation in the U.K in order to undergo medical checks.
One of the President’s aides who accompanied him to the U.K and spoke on condition of anonymity said the President has been battling an “unknown disease” for a while now.
Though the decision to receive medical care in a foreign land angered some of his countrymen, the Nigerian community in London have expressed deep shock for the President’s demise.
It is the second time in a year that Buhari has sought medical treatment outside Nigeria ; he also traveled to London in June 2016 and saw an ear, nose and throat specialist after contracting an ear infection.
Buhari, who was elected in March 2015 in Nigeria’s first democratic transfer of power, had previously promised to clamp down on so-called “health tourism”, where government officials travel abroad for treatment rather than patronizing Nigerian doctors.
In a speech in April 2016 to the Nigerian Medical Association, Buhari said the country lost around $1 billion to health tourism each year. The president added that he would discourage government officials from going elsewhere for treatment “especially when there is evidence of expertise in Nigeria.”
Buhari’s own decision to travel abroad for medical treatment irked some Nigerians, particularly in light of the generous allocation given to the state house clinic, which treats government officials, including the president, in the country’s 2016 budget.
The office of the President is yet to issue an official statement on the President’s demise.

“Nigerians crucified me without hearing my story” – Pretty Mike opens up on chaining girls like dogs in explosive interview

Popular Lagos socialite, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, better known as Pretty Mike, who is now famous for being fond of stepping out to events with girls on a leash and walking them around like dogs, made major headlines over the past few days after he was arrested by the Police on the order of Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Punch’s Saturday Beats, Pretty Mike who had apologised publicly for his actions after the Lagos State Government made him sign an undertaking that he would never do such debasing stuff again, said that there was a mission statement behind his action, adding that he was shocked that Nigerians had already crucified him before hearing his side of the story.
He said, “I have done it twice and let us not make it look as if it is something I have been doing all the time. The two times I have done it were weddings where I was part of the groomsmen which means that I have a personal relationship with the bride and groom. The overall reason I chose to do this was because of the mission statement behind it. It is just unfortunate how people are so quick to jump into conclusion without actually finding out what is going on. All they think is that it is an abuse, or a form of slavery or perverted thoughts.
“For me, there is a mission statement. I would give you some examples to explain the mission statement behind my action. I would not call any names but I am sure we all know about an Emir that was given a 15-year-old as a wife. To me, that is putting women on a leash. We talk about traditional rulers that marry underage women, that is putting women on the leash. We talk about boyfriends and husbands that beat their spouses and abuse them physically, emotionally and spiritually, that is putting women on a leash.
“I needed to get the world’s attention first to be able to pass across my mission statement. It is all about women advocacy at the end of the day. It is all about empowering the women. These women have no voice. I refer to the girls I use as super heroes and we had to do something drastic in order to be heard and get the world’s attention. Now they are talking about it.
“Yes, there are other ways I could have gone about it but there has to be a new way all the time. This is the era of social media and if I come up with a good write-up about women advocacy, nobody would pay attention to me. I would not even get up to ten ‘likes’. We are in the era of social media and if you pay close attention, something drastic has to happen to get the attention of people on social media. Most of the people that have become popular on social media did so by doing something drastic, different and unique
It was alleged the girls auditioned for the ‘role’ and were even paid N30,000 to be chained in the dog leash. However, Pretty Mike claimed he didn’t pay the girls a dime.

“I did not pay those girls; they are a part of my team. I am the owner of Club Uno and I have a team of people who I work with. I sat down with the team and we discussed this before I embarked on the action. When we did it at first, the level of curses we received was incredible. I was the one that suggested that the girls put on a mask so that we don’t deviate from the main point. If the masks were not on and their identities were revealed, you can imagine what they would have been going through now,” he said.
When asked if he could allow his daughter to go through such, he said that if it was for the right cause, he would have no objection.
“A lot of people have done dramatic and extraordinary things even as far back as the civil movement and women have stood up for what they believed in, so if I see a picture of my daughter on a dog leash, knowing full well that I have trained her to the best of my knowledge and in the way of the Lord, I would simply pick up the phone and give her a call. I would ask if she is okay and if she replies that she is, I would tell her about the picture I saw and ask what is going on. If she tells me that she is doing something in terms of women advocacy and she is trying to liberate women, I would tell her to ride on. If it makes her happy, I would tell her to go on.
“I have been in this business for about 10 years and all through those years, I have been very controversial. If you go through my Instagram page, you would see that these are things that I am used to. I am a bit surprised that most of the people that have been bashing me are women between 35 and 50. I understand that they are upset but I was expecting that they would act more maturely because when I went through their Instagram pages, I realised that they have kids. How can a mother tell me things like I would die and my mother would perish? It only lets me know that this country is so backward that we have a long way to go. Most of the ladies that said things that were so mean were mostly mothers. I am not upset because I was already expecting it and I decided to put myself through the pain, abuses and curses because I am trying to achieve something,” he said.

Actress, Ibinabo Fibresima opens up on prison experience, marriage in explosive interview

Ibinabo Fiberesima is a top Nollywood actress who has been in the eye of the storm following her court case over the death of Suraj Giwa, who died in a car accident.
Despite the controversies and outcry that have trailed the sad incident, the actress has managed to remain strong. Fiberesima turned a year older on Friday and to commemorate the occasion, she awarded scholarship to eight indigent students.
In this rare interview with Premium Times, the former model and mother-of-three opens up for the first time about her travails, prison experience, marriage and much more.
PT: Congratulations on your birthday. There have a few discrepancies in your age on the Internet. What’s your true age?
Ibinabo: My official age is 44 years and I was born in 1973.
PT: Why did you decide to award scholarship to eight indigent students?
Ibinabo: To celebrate my birthday this year, I decided to do something different. So my foundation, Ibinabo Care Foundation decided to award scholarships to eight students up to their university level. I will personally follow up and visit the students in school myself. My friend, Monalisa Chinda, was doing the same thing but unknown to her, she was actually paying into a ghost account for four years. I will solely fund this project and I hope to get my colleagues involved in the project as well.
PT: Aside from acting, what else do you do for a living?
Ibinabo: I don’t really act and I just returned to acting. My most recent film is 76 the movie. I also have starred in many yet-to-be released movies. I recently also set up my production outfit, DPT Media, so there is so much to do and I am thankful to God.
PT: As the past Actors Guild of Nigeria president, what are you doing to support ailing veteran actors?
Ibinabo: I am still the AGN President, there has not been an election and we are in court. So, I still remain the president. It’s hard to help the ailing veteran actors because it was easy to reach out to the immediate past president for help but with this government it’s not as easy. It’s not as though they won’t help if we reach out but it’s a longer process.
I always tell our veteran actors to learn to look after themselves. You don’t have to have money to d and that is what I keep telling people. We have so abused ourselves in this industry.
We are workaholics and our lifestyle does not help us. When you are on set, you want to drink all you can, it will mess you up. Actors need to stop for a minute and realize that they have a life like every other human being. Being a celebrity doesn’t t make us supernatural. Once you are over 40, you need to go for medical checkups. In my Facebook post, I spoke about the lumps I found in my breast three times.
PT: Did you accidentally find out?
Ibinabo: Yes I did find out accidentally. They were having a screening at my aunt’s hospital and I walked in and then I just decided to check my breasts casually. I was lucky to have not died that day because of the way the doctor screamed after discovering the lumps and suggested that they took it out immediately. If I weren’t strong I would have collapsed. I couldn’t sleep that night, so I called my dad and went back to Port Harcourt. My dad checked it and they had to get rid of the lumps immediately.
PT: Is your dad a doctor?
Ibinabo: Yes he is a surgeon and the surgery was carried out in his hospital. He was so worried and was looking at the sky while the operation lasted. He didn’t enter the theatre and the result didn’t come out until two weeks and my father couldn’t eat. That’s how afraid everybody was. So, we must look after ourselves, even though sometimes you just wake up and something is upon you.
PT: What major lessons did you learn in your stay in prison?
Ibinabo: I don’t think I learnt a lesson the second time I went to prison. From the first time I went to prison, God told me to slow down, accept life and just know that he is lord and and that’s how it has been. My life has been formed properly. In the past, when people wrote things about me in the papers, I would bother but not any longer. But it rarely happens right now because I am very careful about how I live, I’m very focused and I just give glory to God for who I am today.
PT: You poured out your heart for the first time on Facebook on Friday and you spoke about your marriage. Has your marriage truly packed up?
Ibinabo: I think people should respect what I wrote. I prayed and thank God. I think people should thank God and just let things be.
PT: So, is this yes or no
Ibinabo: People should just let things be and just thank God for me that is all. I am alive today and I think it’s a big deal for me that I have been through everything. Did you see the love on the Internet on my birthday? I was crying half the time. I would be reading some people’s message and I would break down. You wont even believe that the wardresses in prison called me to wish me happy birthday, I just broke down in tears. There is just so much love.
PT: Do you see yourself shooting a biopic or writing a memoir anytime soon?
Ibinabo: My story is ongoing, if I write a book it would be so lengthy so lets just keep glorying God and see where he is taking all of us.
PT: How have you been able to reinvent yourself over the years and remain relevant?
Ibinabo: My first son’s father would say, ‘Ibinabo, when you have God, you will always be relevant.’ I didn’t quite understand him but now I do. My son is 19; so over two decades later it makes sense. If you have God in you and trust God you will always be relevant in a good way.
PT: Ibinabo is said to have 5, 6 children…
Ibinabo: People just write all sorts of things on the Internet. I love children so when they claim I have 6 children I accept. I have three biological children- two boys and girl and I adopted more children.
PT: We saw a different side of you in 76 the movie, how did you get into character to play the role?
Ibinabo: Working with Rita and Ramsey you must try and be like them or better. Rita just glows; I love Rita, she’s that actress after my heart.
PT: How do you manage to look this good at 44?
Ibinabo: I don’t know how but they say it is the genes. My paternal grandmother and father’s family, the Majekodunmis are forever young so I think I got their genes.
PT: It’s not difficult to tell that you have succeeded in bringing warring Nollywood actresses together…
Ibinabo: The only reason they don’t talk with each other is because of rivalry and what people say. So I just try to teach them to love themselves and if this other person is doing well give him or her thumbs up because you will do better. There is no need to beef each other, I always implore them to love each other and thank God they listen.
PT: How did you pull through last year after the case was revisited?
Ibinabo: I wont lie I died like a million times, I always say I always try to see the positive in the worst of situations. I just prayed to God, telling him that I was getting back into prison and that he should help get me out.
PT: Were there times you wished you wished death upon yourself?
Ibinabo: The first time I went to prison, I would have committed suicide. But this second time when it was so bad because I had just had the surgery. So nobody knew about it because I try not to put my public life out there and so I was really in a bad state. Some people whom I met the first time in prison were still there. So, I just took it in m stride and I thank God I was brought out. It’s not a nice place.
PT: How about the family of the deceased?
Ibinabo: It’s the grace of God; I’m still begging them for forgiveness. I’m imploring everybody to join me in begging them and to also pray with me. I am not a bad person I’ve done it all. People have said I didn’t beg but I did everything humanly possible being and God bears me witness. I am still begging because someone dear lost his life. I keep saying how sorry I am but it comes across as though I don’t care or I’m arrogant. I would never do that. It breaks my heart when I read some things and people make me look a devil.
PT: If you could change anything what would it be?
Ibinabo: That accident would never happen, that man would be with his family today. Sometimes I break down considering the fact that I was involved in an accident and someone died. So many versions have been told and some say that I rammed into the deceased.
PT: So, what really happened on that day?
Ibinabo: I was blocked by armed robbers so I swerved to avoid running into them and an oncoming vehicle hit my car and that’s its. The two cars collided and that’s the truth of what happened.
PT: What projects do you hope to embark on in the near future?
Ibinabo: I depend on the grace of God and wherever it takes me is where I will.

Kogi youths celebrate return of MMM

Some youths all around the Kogi state capital city of Lokoja on Saturday were at several beer parlours to celebrate the return of the controversial Mavrodi Mondial Movement (MMM) The Ponzi scheme, banned in Russia where it originated, froze the accounts of 3 million Nigerian members in December, causing panic and anxiety.
The scam returned yesterday, a day before its initial comeback date of 14th January.
Most of the revellers were students of the state owned polytechnic in Lokoja.
They expressed surprise about the comeback of the pyramid money investment scheme, that promises players 30 per cent return, a day ahead of schedule.
Segun Ademola, a student, said he had invested over N300,000 in his MMM account.
He said he was glad to have the operation bounce back. He has a lot of high hopes, that he would reap his investment.
“I am the happiest person on earth today,God bless Mavrodi,”he said.
Fola Owobo, another student, said she used her school fees to provide help to some other person she did not know at all.
She said she was confused when the scheme was shut down on 13 December 2016.
She was relieved now that the MMM was back in operation.‎
Michael Olubola, another student said he has learnt a lesson. He said as soon as he collects his money, he would ‎never try providing help again.
He said he almost had hypertension in the last four weeks, and urged his colleagues to shun free money and embrace hardwork. He said the free money promised by MMM almost caused him his life.
“Sooner or later it would fold up”, she said, as she wondered where the scheme gets the money it promises members.
Yet another student, Wunmi Atte, said ‎she was convinced that the MMM was a fraud.

Gambia talks fail as president refuses to step down

The Gambia’s President-elect, Adama Barrow, has left the country after talks failed to persuade President Yahya Jammeh to step down.
Nigeria’s president flew to Banjul to try to broker a deal but Mr Jammeh would not relinquish power.
Mr Barrow is now heading to Mali, where he will meet West African leaders attending a summit there.
The former estate agent wants to resolve the transitional deadlock so he can be sworn in next week.
President Jammeh’s term ends on Thursday.
The African Union has said it will no longer recognise Mr Jammeh’s rule beyond this point.
Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari had flown to The Gambia’s capital, Banjul, to try to broker a deal, as the region fears the consequences of a non-peaceful transition.
Ecowas, a 15-nation bloc of West African states that organised the delegation, has it said it would consider removing Mr Jammeh using military force if he refuses to step aside.
Mr Barrow is ravelling to Mali with the Ecowas delegation for further discussions this weekend.
Mr Jammeh had initially admitted defeat after the December election. But shortly afterwards he called for the result to be annulled.
The 51-year-old leader seized power in the country in 1994 and has been accused of human rights abuses, although he has held regular elections.

Tekno seals N1.2 billion Sony music deal In grand style

Ever since we broke the news last year about Tekno working on penning a deal with Sony Music various reports and details about the said deal has been in circulation on the internet, with many attributing a photo of Ubi and Tekno signing a partnership deal in Paul Okoye office as the Sony Deal.
Oh Well the deal has finally been sealed in far away New York by the singer, his label boss, Ubi Franklin and their new partner, Paul Okoye whom the duo met up with in the capital city two days ago upon arrival.
They moved on to Sony head office where they met with the staffs and put pen to paper on a $4 million deal, that’s over 1.2 billion naira. The deal is said to be the biggest ever by any Nigerian artist yet and is also believe to dwarf that of Davido and Wizkid. The recording deal also sees Tekno sign under Colombia records, the first African artiste to do so.
Immediately after sealing his deal, Tekno and his gang stormed Barneys Store in New York where they were given a VIP treatment as the store got shut down for their shopping. Paul O could be heard in the background of a footage shared online complaining about just spending $2,000 when they had enough cash to spend more.
Tekno is definitely having it good and Nigerians are sure proud of him for proving he is a little bit more than a Next rated artist like some will have us believe.
Congrats on the new mega deal Tekno.

“Nigerians Are Not Helping Prince James Uche Because He is Not a Woman” – Emeka Ike

Each time, a Nollywood figure gets sick,n Nigerians often wonder what the Actors Guild of Nigeria is doing to help them.
Nollywood actor, Prince James Uche who recently got N10 million as lifeline from the Abia State government is one example of such cases and the president of the guild, Emeka Ike, has come to defend the body.
He explained “It is sad that someone like Prince James is begging for help but what is sadder is the fact that one Nigerian can actually pay all his medical bills. But because the sickness does not involve a fine girl, everybody is minding their business. I bet you that if it was a fine girl that was in his shoes, a lot of Nigerian men would have signified interest in helping but because the matter at hand involves an old man, everyone seems to be turning a deaf ear. I implore all Nigerians to please support this wonderful talent and help him back on his feet. On my part, I would continue to do what I can to help him and other members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
He said, “I have done what I can personally for Prince James and I also call on Nigerians to also come and help out en masse. But I really do not believe in actors coming out to beg for money to solve one issue or the other and that is why my administration is working on a biometric card with my friend Pretty Okafor of PMAN so that we can know all our members and cater for them especially when they are in dire need of
